Suspect Arrested In Shooting Of Man In Northern Liberties
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police have arrested a suspect in a robbery and shooting in Northern Liberties that left a man paralyzed.
Suspect Christopher Easter, 20, was arrested Tuesday morning inside a home in the 1700 block of W. Bristol Street in the city's Nicetown section.
Police say Easter is a suspect in the shooting of 29-year-old Kevin Neary in the 700 block of N. Bodine Street on November 15th.
Neary was shot in the neck and underwent spinal fusion surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital on Monday.
Surveillance video captured Neary walking down the sidewalk being closely followed by a suspect.
Neary, according to his family, had just walked his friend home. Police say they were out watching Monday night football at the Piazza in Northern Liberties. He was almost home when police say the man seen in the video shot him.
"Demands his belongings and before the complainant could respond or do anything, he is shot one time in the neck," Lt. Pat Dougherty said.
Police say there's additional video showing the same man running away, empty-handed.
Investigators say Easter has a history of violent crime that includes burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, robbery and aggravate assault. He remains behind bars.
