PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man wanted for a savage attack on an 87-year-old Committeewoman and her son during a home invasion attack in West Philadelphia early Tuesday is in custody.
Details of the arrest are unclear, but authorities say he was taken into custody in Chester, Delaware County later on the same day as the attack after he gave a fake name during a traffic stop and later it was determined he was wanted in Philadelphia.
Authorities say 87-year-old Yvonnne Gaines and her son, 62-year-old James Brinkly, knew their attacker, who stabbed and beat them.
City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell says she is overjoyed 41-year-old suspect Jimmy Morrison is off the streets.
"To take a woman, 87-years-old, who opens her door, who cooks for people, who even on Halloween dresses up for the children, who does whatever she can to give to people, is just heartless that a neighbor who used his relationship, a former neighbor, would use his relationship with her and her son to attack them and attempt to rob them is so very, very cruel," Blackwell said.
The victims are recovering.
