Suspect Arrested After Attempted Carjacking Of Two Elderly Women In Hamilton
By Robin Rieger
HAMILTON, NJ (CBS) – Two elderly women in Mercer County were attacked inside their own car during an attempted carjacking over the weekend.
The two women, ages 92 and 94, had shopped at the CVS on Route 33 on Sunday morning. When they got into their car in the parking lot, they encountered a man inside the backseat. The suspect, later identified as Sergio Fernando Solorzano-Vasquez, 27, began slashing the two women with a knife.
"He's reaching toward the front seat with the knife towards the women. The driver, who's 94 years old, threw her arm back to block him, to block the knife. [In the] meantime, the other sister, the 92-year-old in the passenger seat, jumped from the car, waved her arms and started screaming, attracting attention," says Sgt. Robert Miktus, of the Hamilton Township Police Department.
As the suspect ran from inside the car, a witness watched as he ran across Route 33 and behind a dry cleaning business. Police arrived minutes later and were able to arrest the man, identified as Solorzano-Vasquez, of Chambers Street in Trenton. He was charged with Robbery/Carjacking, Aggravated Assault, and Weapons Possession. Bail was set at $150,000.
While the two women tell police they're not holding on to any animosity towards the suspect, they hope never to see him again.
