Survey: New And Expecting Parents 'Googling' Twice As Much As Non-parents
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you're expecting a baby, you may have turned to the internet for help.
In fact, a new Google Think Insights survey shows that new and expectant parents do twice as many online searches as non-parents do.
What's more, 56% of those parents and parents-to-be are searching Google from their smartphone or mobile device, and young parents born in the so-called "digital age" are more likely to do online searches than older parents.
"Our survey showed that youth plus parenthood is a digital double whammy: Young parents (ages 18–34) search 54% more than older parents. Young mothers use smartphones as their primary device most often," Google says.
But don't discount dad: millennial fathers did the most searches overall, according to the survey.
Most parents are searching for clothes, whether those are maternity or baby. And searches for "cloth diapers" online have increased 218% since 2007, showing many are trying to go green and save some cash.
Also of interest – "health" is the top concern for both expectant and new parents. Expecting and new parents are reportedly most interested in "weight," while "fever" is a buzzword in the toddler stage.
