Survey: 44% Of Pennsylvanians Feel PSU Penalties Are Too Harsh

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The results are in on a survey about the severity of the punishment against Penn State in the sex abuse scandal.
It is a state divided.
The CBS News-Quinnipiac University survey of Pennsylvanians finds that 44-percent feel the NCAA penalties against Penn State, including a $60 million fine plus a ban on bowl games for four years, are too severe. Thirty-three percent say they are appropriate and 14-percent say not severe enough.
In a bottom line finding of this survey, 60 percent say colleges and universities should place less emphasis on sports. And that includes a majority of the people who think the penalties are too severe.
