I-95 Reopens After Tractor-Trailer Leaked Hazardous Substance On Highway In Delaware County
TINICUM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Parts of interstate 95 southbound and northbound in Delaware County were closed for several hours after authorities said a tractor-trailer leaked an unknown substance on the highway Friday evening.
At about 5:30 p.m., The Delaware County Hazardous Material Team responded to the scene near the Route 420 exit following reports of a tractor-trailer leaking an unknown fluid on the highway. According to officials, the driver of the tractor was flagged down by other motorists who saw the tanker leaking. Officials said the substance is hazardous, but have not revealed what it is at this time.
I-95 southbound was closed at the Broad Street exit and I-95 northbound was closed at exit 8. Crews were able to successfully contain the spill at about 9 p.m. and the highway opened up shortly thereafter.
Officials requested residents of the Prospect Park area to voluntarily evacuate their residence. A meeting point was established at Ridley Park High School in Ridley.
As a result of the spill, Taylor Hospital in Ridley Township has been temporarily closed. It is unknown at this time when it will reopen.
Commuters can expect some traffic delays as a result of the investigation.
