Study: Marijuana Use Linked To Lower Diabetes Risk
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A new study has found a link between smoking marijuana and lower diabetes risk.
According to CBS News, the study, published in The American Journal of Medicine, found that although pot smokers tend to eat more calories than non-smokers, marijuana may be a tool that helps control blood sugar.
Researchers surveyed 4,657 adult men and women: 1,975 which were past users, 579 which were current users and 2,103 who had never used.
Participants were asked to fast for nine hours before having blood drawn to check their fasting insulin and glucose levels.
The study found marijuana smokers had lower body mass indexes and smaller waistlines; diabetes risk has been linked to larger waistlines.
