Study Finds Link Between Diabetes, Obesity And Breast Cancer
By Dr. Brian McDonough
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - According to a new study of over 1.5-million people living in southwestern Sweden, people who have diabetes or are obese are at greater risks of developing breast cancer.
The research was presented at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. They looked at people over the age of 60 and that is where they found the significant increase.
Now there is good news. Weight loss had a protective effect against breast cancer and, in addition, people who took medications to control diabetes also improved their chances of not developing the condition.
What they are saying here is that losing weight or controlling your blood sugar also can have a protective effect. These lifestyle changes do have an effect and it's important to recognize it.
