Study: Coffee in Moderation Safe for Pregnant Women

A new study shows women who are pregnant can drink coffee without harming their unborn babies.

KYW medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough explains that the key word is moderation, but according to a report from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, moderate coffee consumption doesn't appear to be a major contributor to miscarriage or premature birth.

That means if you're pregnant, at least to this organization, it is okay to drink less than 200 milligrams a day of caffeine.  That's what was found in about 12 ounces of coffee, a cup-and-a-half.

Now, obviously, there is more information that could be discovered in time, but at this point I would stick with this knowledge.  A cup-and-a-half is probably as much as you should take, but you can feel comfortable drinking a little bit of coffee while you're pregnant.
