Traffic Studies Set For Willow Grove Tpk. Interchange and Rt. 611

By Brad Segall

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (CBS) -- There's a bit of good news for drivers who regularly use the Route 611 corridor in Montgomery County, especially around the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange.

Drivers who use the turnpike on a regular basis know the Willow Grove interchange is routinely a bottleneck, especially when getting off the toll road in the afternoon.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has released $50,000 each for two studies looking at how to alleviate congestion at the interchange and along the Route 611 corridor.

"They'll look at widening 611 to six lanes in Montgomery County," explains Montgomery County commissioner Leslie Richards.  "It's going to be looking from Blair Mill Road to County Line Road and seeing where it's feasible to get six lanes in -- three in each direction."

At that point there will be opportunities for public input, and then decisions on how to move forward.

Richards expects that it will be around this time next year when we will start to see some of the results of the studies.

She says the recently signed transportation bill is providing the funds.
