Studies: Dementia Striking Later In Life
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We don't have a cure for dementia and sadly despite all of the research, we still don't have an answer for the exact cause. But, there is some good news according to a report in The New England Journal of Medicine.
Dementia may be striking later in older people than it has in the past. The information is based on five studies, which suggest that certain measures may be helping such as better levels of education among those approaching their golden years and improved control of high blood pressure and lifestyle factors leading to stroke.
There is a downside that comes in the form of a warning: increasing rates of obesity in younger populations could reverse this trend.
