Students Hold Emotional Vigil For Middle School Football Player Struck, Killed By Car
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Students and staff at Lenape Middle School in Bucks County gathered for a very emotional vigil honoring a 9th-grade classmate who was struck and killed by a car over the weekend.
Police in Doylestown say Steven Kim was skateboarding when the accident occurred at around 11 p.m. Saturday night, at the intersection of Southeastern and Turk Roads.
An announcement, posted on Central Bucks School District's Facebook page by Superintendent David Weitzel, calls Kim a "wonderful student," who always had a smile on his face.
Kim played football for Central Bucks West High School's freshman team and had previously played in 7th and 8th grade.
Weitzel said because football was one of Kim's biggest passions, the students planned the vigil to take place on War Memorial Field Monday afternoon as a way to honor their classmate.
Lenape Middle School principal Timothy Donovan sent a letter to parents on Sunday, addressing the accident.
Donovan said school staff would met before classes began this morning.
School officials will be offering support as well as providing counselors for students throughout the day and coming weeks.
