Students Celebrate Hanukkah At Jewish Day School In Montgomery County
WYNNEWOOD, Pa. (CBS) -- We are halfway through the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah and students at Perelman Jewish Day School in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania celebrated the holiday Wednesday with their annual assembly and sing along.
"It's about Hanukkah," said one young student. "In each grade they're sharing a song that they learned in their class."
"And it's to like rejoice Hanukkah," said another, "and it's really fun and we get to learn new Hebrew songs."
School Rabbi Chaim Galfand said the assembly is an important part of the tradition at the school.
"So much of what goes into Jewish tradition is a combination of learning," Galfand said. "Sometimes it's learning Jewish texts and sometimes it's the music of our tradition."
And this is the time when the students are really building those important childhood memories.
"These are the most impressionable years," Galfand says. "In many ways, I think if you can give us a child at this age, we can give you somebody with whom the Jewish tradition is going to stick for life."
