Students At West Philadelphia School Design Their Dream Playground
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Students at Global Leadership Academy Charter School in West Philadelphia spent Thursday afternoon using their imagination to design a playground for their school.
Reporter: "What's your idea of a dream playground?"
Amaya: "Swings and any place that a kid can have fun!"
Nine-year-old Amaya has a vision for the play space that will soon be built behind her school.
Reporter: "Do you know what colors you want?"
Amaya: "Blue, orange, black, green and yellow."
The fourth-grader's drawings, as well as those from other students from the school, will be incorporated into the playground design.
School CEO Naomi Johnson-Booker says the new play space is a bonus for their new school. "Our school burnt to the ground last January and we built this school out a dream we had and it is a state of the art facility."
Johnson-Booker says the new playground is thanks to a grant from Kaboom, a non-profit that is fighting to save play and sponsor, the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. The playground will be built by the community on April 26th.
