Student Charged With Attempted Armed Robbery At Pa. University
KUTZTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Kutztown University officials say a student has been charged in an attempted armed robbery in a dorm room at the eastern Pennsylvania school.
A school spokesman say 19-year-old sophomore Shahaid Smith was one of the three men who allegedly stormed into the room in Deatrick Hall on March 8 and threatened the residents. Police say two of the men carried handguns, but nothing was taken.
The spokesman, Matt Santos, says the incident isn't believed to be related to two other assaults that happened around the same time.
Smith was arrested Thursday. Court records show the Crum Lynne resident faces charges of robbery, burglary and other counts.
He was being held on $200,000 bail at Berks County Prison and it could not immediately be determined if he had an attorney.
