1 Woman Killed, 2 Others Seriously Injured In Strawberry Mansion Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One woman is dead and two others are in critical condition after they were shot in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion section. Police said an SUV and car near 33rd and Diamond Streets were shot at, just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Benjamin Naish with Philadelphia police said, "They opened fire on both cars. They struck the car where the woman was killed multiple times."
The second location was just four blocks away on Monument Road where another car was shot up, leaving a 26-year-old victim injured.
A 24-year-old woman, Chaundrah Jones of Clifton Heights, was shot in the back and wrist. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Two other women, the 26- and 32 year-olds, are in critical condition.
"The grand finale of the fireworks that's what the shots sounded like," one witness told CBS3. "Then I heard a couple of big booms like they had a shotgun or something. I can hear them hollering and screaming."
Mayor Jim Kenney said the shooting hit very close to home for him.
"This hits me personally," he said. "It takes a lot of life out of me, and I'm really sorry what happened to that young lady and everyone else that had been killed."
This is the city's 407th homicide this year.
Neighbors tell CBS3 gun violence is happening everywhere, no matter the neighborhood.
"Don't look at a neighborhood and say it's a beautiful neighborhood, no it's the people," one neighbor said.
