Stotesbury Cup Regatta Brings Competitors From Across The Country To The Schuylkill River

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - More than 5,000 high school athletes from 140 cities are in Philadelphia for the world's largest and oldest scholastic rowing competition.
The two day event attracts competitors and spectators from across the country. While the main attraction is on the Schuylkill River, the massive grandstand and all of the action on dry land are part of what make the event unique.
Jack Grimm from Kearney, New Jersey came to cheer for his son.
"We have four 10x10 tents, a grill from home from the backyard and being we're in Philadelphia, we're cooking all the kids Philly cheesesteaks for lunch. A lot of parents you could see here, everybody pitches in. It's a good time," said Grimm.
Ellie Gately and her teammates from Virgina are enjoying down time between races.
"Currently, we're trying the art of paddle ball, but we're really bad at it. We're hanging out by the water, just occupying our minds because we get a little nervous before a race," said Gately.
CBS Radio is a co-sponsor of the 87th annual Stotesbury Regatta.
