Storms Flood Wildwood Streets, Send 4 To Hospital After Lightning Strike
WILDWOOD, N.J. (CBS) -- Wild storms in Wildwood, New Jersey Wednesday afternoon left a group of beach goers with quite a scare following a close encounter with lightning.
According to authorities, a group of four were huddled under an umbrella near Cedar Avenue seeking shelter during a storm.
Authorities say a bolt of lightning struck nearby and traveled up the umbrella, injuring a male and female. The two, both in their twenties, were taken to the Cape Regional Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
After the lightning strike, a pregnant woman and a child went home, but later called paramedics to be taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to authorities. All four are expected to recover.
Eyewitness News tried talking to the vacationers at the west Wildwood home where they're staying, but they declined comment.
The Ditter family from Pittsburgh was also on the beach during the storm, huddled under a tent.
"We were one of the families hiding under a tent when we probably shouldn't have been," said Don Ditter.
"Our first thought was to get out of the way," said Julie Browning from Connecticut.
