Storm Causes Airport Delays, Other Problems Throughout Area
By Mike Dougherty, Andrew Kramer
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Sunday's storm has caused delays at Philadelphia International Airport as well as unexpected damage throughout parts of Southern New Jersey.
The skies opened up Sunday and dumped more than seven inches of rain at PHL, causing power outages as well as flight delays. This shattered the previous single-day record of 6.63 inches.
The nasty weather made getting around on the roads a difficult task, and the airport also felt the wrath of Mother Nature.
Frank DeSimmone's Delta flight from Paris landed without incident and then they just sat there:
"We learned that there was no electricity." he said. "No lights and all the computers were down."
He says it was frustrating to be stuck on a plane well after the eight hour flight had ended.
Airport spokeswoman Victoria Lupica says the biggest problem was a total blackout in Terminal A East:
"Representatives are on hand to make sure passengers are being accomodated and informed."
And she says crews are working diligently to get everything back to normal.
Meanwhile, In New Jersey, drivers were dealing with an onlsaught of rain in Camden. At the Camden Waterfront, people were caught off guard by just how powerful the storm was.
Flooding was also a nightmare for drivers. Motorists on Interstate 676 in Camden County were going nowhere fast. Route 42 was also closed from Philadelphia to South Jersey, leading to an enormous backup. Some people say they were stuck in their cars now for hours.
