Stores Bracing For Day After Christmas Rush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - On Thursday, the day after Christmas, millions will head to the gift return line to exchange those gifts that didn't quite hit the mark.
Many shops and boutiques were closed on Christmas, but will open early to prepare for not only those looking to make some returns, but also for those who are looking for some deep discounts. If you thought the deals and discounts before Christmas were decent, experts predict the lackluster holiday season so far means huge sales after.
"You can do a little exchanging, get the exact things that you wanted the first time around," shoppers Annabel Rose says.
Picture it! Malls and shops packed with not only the bargain hunters, but those looking to return and exchange gifts.
"No, no, no, there's 60 days for me to return stuff so I think I'm good," Sean Taff says.
Makes sense, but did you know to avoid return fraud, retailers have adopted stiffer return policies? So remember to read the fine print on those receipts before hitting the stores.
Experts suggest looking for the length of the return window and whether holiday gifts get an extension. Certain items also carry a restocking fee and remember that some things, like video games and movies, cannot be returned once they're opened.
This shopper even offered her own tips for surviving the after-Christmas rush:
"It's like Black Friday. Get there early so you can get what you want. The earlier the better."
Also, remember to have your state-issued I.D. with you. That's because stores will be asking for that if you don't have a receipt. That's how they keep track of those repeat return offenders.
With all that in mind, if you're still up for some shopping, malls and stores, many of them, are opening bright and early.
