Stigall noted a line from Michaels claiming Republicans are easier to ridicule than Democrats as the one that is drawing attention from the political class, but he says he feels the more revealing quote is where Michaels says Republicans focus more on pop culture and not Benghazi, budget agreements, the new healthcare law or the Obamas.
Stigall responded to Michaels' claims, saying, "They do not think Barack Obama is funny. They do not see the humor in the man. They see nothing that he's done as worthy of mockery."
"Today, I could sit and write a sketch about Barack Obama and Kathleen Sebelius developing healthcare.gov through the government of Belarus…this show refuses to hit Obama," Stigall continued.
"They made vicious fun of Bill Clinton, they used to do that and they stopped with Obama," Stigall added, criticizing Saturday Night Live for continually mocking former presidents but treating President Obama differently.
"Lorne Michaels, the guy that's supposed to have his finger on the pulse, says the country's lost interest in Obamacare, or [that it's] so depressing and heavy and disastrous. And these Democrats are in full blown -- he knows making fun of it just makes it worse," Stigall said.
Stigall believes the show has a political agenda and that, "there is a decision being made regularly on Saturday Night Live, which has always supposed to have been the cultural driver, the pop culture critique of what's going on in government, and they have officially resigned from comedy when it comes to the most powerful."
Stigall concluded by saying that the show has forsaken its willingness to speak truth to power if they will not treat Barack Obama's administration how they treated his predecessors.
