'Steve' The Micro-Pig Home, Zoning Fight Continues
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – 'Steve' the micro-pig is finally home, but his owner's battle with the Township isn't over yet.
"Look Steve, you're on camera!" screamed kids in the neighborhood.
He sure is, and more importantly to Brian Maguire, his owner, the pot-bellied pig is back home. (see related story)
Last Wednesday Steve got out, and was picked up by the Township. And that's when the trouble began.
Maguire says, "They refused to give him back to me because of zoning."
In fact, Maguire says, Ridley Township officials said they sent Steve to a farm and that pet pigs are prohibited. Maguire fought for his snout nosed squeler, and Steve was returned. But this piggy battle isn't over.
"I still have to fight zoning to keep him. And we have to go through that."
He also has to prove that Steve's not dinner.
"I've got some proof that he's a pet and always will be a pet, nobody eats him."
Bryan, a neighbor says, "he's a great animal."
And friendly too, the neighborhood kids just love him, even though he doesn't interact much.
"He doesn't have much of a personality, he doesn't bark or anything."
And that's exactly why Ashley Gardner thinks Steve should stay.
"He's better than a dog, he's not loud," says Gardner.
The bottom line, Maguire hopes to show the Township Steve isn't anything like you think.
"He's a clean animal, I think a lot of people think pigs are dirty animals, always muddy. But, they're actually one of the cleanest animals."
