Step Into The Presidents' Shoes Today At The Constitution Center
By Suzanne Monaghan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - On this President's Day, the National Constitution Center has several events planned to entertain and educate.
Visitors can learn what childhood was like for George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Then, the 'How to Be President 101' program explores presidential responsibilities, such as signing and vetoing legislation and some less stressful traditions.
"Abraham Lincoln actually unofficially pardoned the first turkey for Thanksgiving, a true presidential tradition," says Matt Riffe, public programs demonstrator for the Constitution Center. "He had a turkey named Jack that he pardoned right before Thanksgiving."
Among the exhibits: Harry Truman's Hawaiian shirt, Gerald Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan's jellybean jar.
"You can also talk to a few presidents. We have Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson impersonators."
And, play a game of presidential trivia, when, Riffe says, you might just learn something new.
"William Howard Taft actually got stuck in a White House bathtub. He weight over 332 pounds and they actually had to install a big enough bathtub for him to fit in."
And you can take your turn stepping in their shoes by dressing up as president.
