State Rep: Going To Make Sure Election Turnout Not Dictated By SEPTA Strike
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Hillary Clinton's Pennsylvania campaign is hoping the SEPTA strike doesn't derail its get out the vote plans.
For now, State Representative Joanna McClinton says Pennsylvania Democrats are focusing on the task at hand.
"We are making every effort to knock on every door in this city, to call every voter that we know."
But the SEPTA strike could cause chaos on Election Day.
Thousands of voters rely on mass transit to get to polling places. Without getting into specifics, McClinton says they'll find a way around that blockade.
"We are going to make sure that the election turnout is not dictated by what may or may not be happening between SEPTA and the Transit Workers Union."
SEPTA may offer the best hope for the get out the vote effort, with it's threat to seek a court injunction to force the striking transit workers back to their jobs on election day.
