Start Of Trial Delayed For Montco Man Accused Of Murdering Toddler And Her Grandmother

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) --- A Montgomery County judge has delayed the start of a trial for the Upper Merion man accused of murdering a ten month old girl and her grandmother inside their King of Prussia apartment nearly two years ago.
Raghu Yandamuri, the defendant, asked for the continuance, telling the judge he needs more time to meet with his forensic pathologist, a DNA expert, and his investigator.
Prosecutors objected to a long delay arguing that his reasons for a delay are non-existent and the family has waited almost two years for justice and closure.
Judge Steven O'Neill granted a one week continuance…which will move the start of the trial to September 15th.
During the status conference Yandamuri has also advised the judge that he was withdrawing his request for a computer animation expert.
Prosecutors contend Yandamuri wanted to kidnap Saanvi Venna and hold her for ransom, but killed the grandmother when she fought back and then murdered the child.
He's defending himself and faces the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.
