'Star Wars' Inspired Events In Philadelphia
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters Dec. 18. Here's a look at some events inspired by the films that are happening in and around the Philadelphia area.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuts December 17 in the Tuttleman IMAX® Theater. One of only 20 theaters worldwide to screen Star Wars in 15/70 IMAX film format, there will be round-the-clock screenings throughout opening weekend.
Iconic Star Wars film memorabilia from The Franklin Institute's curatorial collection will also be on display, and be sure to look out for special character appearances by Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Jawa and Stormtroopers!

Celebrate the release of the new movie at the Whitman Branch in South Philadelphia by making your own light saber and other cool Star Wars crafts on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. For children and families.The Free Library of Philadelphia also has hundreds of Star Wars titles for all ages and in all formats – printed books, e-books, audiobooks and DVDs. You'll find the stories told by the six films and the newest Star Wars – The Force Awakens. Star Wars Night At The Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers will hold Star Wars night on Friday, Dec. 11 when they host the Detroit Pistons at 7 p.m.

December is Star Wars Month at Atomic City Comics on South Street! Check out screenings of the original trilogy every Wednesday at 8 p.m. leading up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.For adult fans, there will be a Star Wars-themed costume dance party at Tattooed Mom's on Friday, Dec. 4 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The event will also include a Star Wars Art Show featuring work by local artists. The artwork will also be available at Atomic City Comics through the month of December.
Pub On Passyunk East And Industry Bar
Philadelphia, Pa.
Another event for adult fans will be underway on Dec. 17. A bar crawl will go from Pub on Passyunk East 7-9pm, to Industry Bar 9:30-11:30pm, then to the midnight premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, at United Artists Riverview Plaza Stadium 17.Tickets are available at either bar, and have to be purchased in person. The $25 ticket includes the first beer at each bar, and admission to the movie. For more information, click here.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Opens In Theaters Dec. 18
If you are planning on wearing a costume when you go to see the movie, be sure to check with your local theater first.
AMC Theatres has the following costume policy posted on their website:
"AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience. Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks or face paint," the statement reads, in part.
An AMC spokesperson says its their policy all the time and for every movie, and has been for a number of years, without any significant negative feedback from guests.
