Standoff Of Temple Student Inside North Philly Home Ends
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Police say a suicidal Temple University student has surrendered, ending a nearly 17-hour standoff with police at his off-campus apartment.
Police and university officials have yet to identify the student.
But police say the parents of the 26-year-old man alerted officers that their son was suicidal and police say the man had a gun.
Police say the man never threatened to harm anybody else, though witnesses say some gunfire was heard. It was unclear whether police fired shots or flash grenades at the home in an effort to end the standoff, or whether the student returned fire.
In any event, police say nobody was injured and the student was convinced to surrender about 2:15 a.m. Monday. The incident began shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday in North Philadelphia.
