Springsteen Photo-Biographer Shares Her 'Boss' Experiences
By Michelle Durham
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A photojournalist who spent more than 30 years covering Bruce Springsteen will be in West Philadelphia tomorrow afternoon for a book signing.
The book, Bruce Springsteen, In Focus 1980 - 2012, has been a labor of love for author-photographer Debra Rothenberg.
She says that every performance by "The Boss" was different, making photographing him difficult.
"You never know from night to night. He's so energetic, he's all over the place. He's very spontaneous. You have to be on your toes," she says.
Rothenberg says she's been to Bruce's shows innumerable times.
"Anywhere from a hundred feet back to a foot away, standing on the stage of the Stone Pony, standing next to him backstage or next to him or during the making of the 'One Step Up, Two Steps Back' video in 1988."
She considers this book is her tribute to Springsteen, filled with personal anecdotes collected during her work capturing scores of performances.
Rothenberg will be at the Penn Bookstore, 36th and Walnut Streets, on Thursday from noon to 2pm.
