WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Authorities say what turned out to be a spoiled food product caused for some tense moments in Delaware early Friday morning.
According to police, the incident began at about 8:30 a.m. when an ING Direct employee went to the Post Office at 500 Delaware Avenue to pick up a package.
After coming in contact with the mail package, the employee began to experience symptoms of an unknown illness.
The male was taken to the Christiana Hospital for further examination and treatment.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and secured both locations. The Post Office, where the suspicious package was located, was evacuated.
After a further examination, authorities determined that the contents of the package were not a threat and that it was some type of spoiled food product.
Authorities say it appears the employee's medical condition was unrelated to the incident. No criminal activity was involved.
Both locations were determined to be safe and access was opened for the public and employees.
