Spending In Pa. Sestak-Toomey Race Could Set Records
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fundraising. It's always tough for nonprofits, but this year, when it comes to the game of political power, the sky is the limit.
For many Americans, times are tough. But not for the heavyweight contenders for high office.
Pat Toomey has raised $14 million since his campaign began, Joe Sestak $9 million. Sestak had to spend a chunk of that in the primary against Arlen Specter.
In the last quarter, Toomey -- the frontrunner according to most surveys -- raised $3.8 million. Sestak raised $3.2 million.
Will they spend it all? No question about that. The fundraising total for this race may exceed $30 million by the time all the votes are counted, and that's 26 days away.
The cost to get your vote has always been expensive, but this year it could be, at least in the Pennsylvania US Senate race, a record.
