Special Celebration in Phila. for National Parks Anniversary
Wednesday is Founders Day, the anniversary of the founding of the National Park Service and there'll be a special program held several times during the day to celebrate in Independence National Historical Park.
KYW's Karin Phillips reports that on August 25th, 1916, the National Park Service was created, to preserve nature for future generations. It was the first agency of its kind in the world.
The National Park Service will celebrate the anniversary with a special free program in the Independence Visitors Center. Jane Cowley - public affairs officer of the Independence Visitors Center - says the program will feature a Founding Father:
"Thomas Jefferson will be in the park on stage with a National Park Service park ranger and Jefferson will talk about the founding of our nation and the park ranger will talk about the founding of the Park Service. It's a 20 minute program, it's free, and there'll be time to talk to Jefferson after the program.
The program will be held at 10am, 11am, noon and 1pm.
