SPCA Puts Puppies Rescued From Alleged Dogfighting Ring Up For Adoption
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nine puppies rescued from an alleged dog fighting and breeding operation in Kensington over the weekend (see related story) are now up for adoption.
After obtaining a search warrant, Pennsylvania SPCA humane law officers took custody of three adult pit bulls with scarring and nine puppies from a home in the 3300 block of H Street in the Kensington section of the city.
"Frequently you'll find breeding operations along with animals used in fighting," says PSPCA spokeswoman Wendy Marano. "So we were able to rescue all 12 of the animals, and we brought them here."
The nine puppies are currently up for adoption. The three adult dogs were being evaluated for their suitability for possible future adoption.
Thirty-six year old Rasheed Holland has been charged with multiple felony counts related to dog fighting and related crimes.
