SPCA Gives Dogs Rescued From Lancaster County Home A Second Chance
By Kristen Johanson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Late last year, dozens of dogs were rescued from a farm in Lititz, Lancaster County. Officials went back to the farm in March and found even more. A woman was arrested and charged for having them in unsanitary confinement. Today, some of those dogs will hopefully start a new life.
In December, more than 60 dogs were rescued from a farm, and the owner was charged with animal cruelty. As part of the plea deal, the owner had to agree not to have any pets, but the SPCA says she violated that agreement.
"19 dogs that were rescued from a home in Lancaster County are available for adoption," says SPCA Director of Communications, Elizabeth Romaine. "They were seized in a raid. That was the second one we performed at the property in four months."
Romaine says the rescued dogs are all Cocker Spaniels and all in need of a special home.
"The best family is really on a case by case basis," she says. "And we will have adoption handlers on hand that will be able to match the right dog with the right type of family.
The 60 dogs rescued in December, have all been adopted.
If you are interested in adopting any of the 19 dogs, you can head to the SPCA on E. Erie Avenue from 2-7pm on Sunday, April 12.
