South Philadelphia Woman Gets 10-20 Years In Prison For Setting Another Woman On Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 46-year-old South Philadelphia woman has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for arson. She set another woman on fire during an argument last year.

Authorities say this horrible crime happened after a night of partying. Defendant Doreen Cuffie argued with the victim, an acquaintance, and then Cuffie attacked with fire.

"It was a case where the defendant threw lighter fluid on to the victim and then lit a lighter and the victim went up in flames. Her injuries are extensive," Prosecutor Nadine Stevenson explains. "She has had to have several surgeries. She has had to have plastic surgeries. She has had to have skin grafts. She has been in a lot of pain."

The victim was not in court for the sentencing. The attorneys say Cuffie has a history of mental illness.
