PITTSGROVE, Nj. (CBS) -- A popular South Jersey state park that, for the most part, has been closed since a freak summer storm was set to fully reopen to the public on Friday.
Parvin State Park in Salem County was hammered by a pop up summer storm on June 30th that left two children dead when a tree fell on them during a family campout. (read related story)
Winds in that storm topped out at 80 miles- per-hour. While the public pool reopened in late July, it took a while to get the rest of the park back in shape.
"We had to remove more than 2,000 trees that were knocked down or severely damaged by the storm," says Larry Hajna, spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection. "We also removed hazardous branches from approximately 15 hundred additional trees."
It cost approximately 300,000 to make the necessary repairs.
