South Jersey Officials Warning Dangerous Painkiller Being Used to Cut Heroin
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (AP) — Officials in southern New Jersey are warning that a dangerous painkiller is being used to cut the strength of heroin.
Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor says officials found fentanyl in an amount of heroin that was recently seized in Wildwood. The prosecutor says the prescription drug is more potent that morphine and could lead to death.
Nearly one-third of the 99 drug-related overdoses investigated in Cape May County this year have been fatal.
Taylor says Drug Enforcement Administration statistics show recent purity levels of heroin in southern New Jersey have been as high as 63percent with a national average of 25 percent.
