South Jersey High School Teacher Accused Of Textual Harassment
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS/AP) -- Police in southern New Jersey have accused a high school teacher with harassing a recent female graduate with text messages.
Police say 34-year-old David Clune of Gloucester Township sent 33 flirtatious and inappropriate messages to the 17-year-old girl's cellphone between July Fourth and July 8 seeking to meet her.
"He used his position as a teacher, at a high school with recent graduates, to make contact with them and try to meet with them socially; asking them if they had an interest in him and him telling them that he felt as though they were attractive," said Gloucester Township Police Deputy Chief David Harkins.
Police say they did not meet and did not have contact when the girl was at Timber Creek High School, where Clune teaches math.
"You have to remember you're the adult, that's a child and you can't cross that line," says Donna Spencer who is Clune's neighbor and a teacher herself.
Police charged Clune with harassment.
Police say the teacher also sent flirtatious private Facebook messages to a recent 18-year-old female graduate over three days. She declined to prosecute.
