Sources: Flyers To Host Winter Classic At Citizens Bank Park
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- According to multiple sources, the Philadelphia Flyers will host the New York Rangers in the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park on January 2nd.
CSNPhilly.com is reporting the event, which is usually held on January 1st, was pushed back a day to avoid a possible scheduling conflict with the Eagles and Redskins playing at Lincoln Financial Field.
This will mark the second time in three years the Flyers are playing in the Winter Classic. They previously lost at Boston's Fenway Park in 2010 to the Bruins.
This will be the fifth Winter Classic for the NHL and second in succession in Pennsylvania. The Penguins hosted this year's event at Heinz Field, losing to the Washington Capitals.
An official announcement from the NHL is expected later this month.
