Soul's Derrick Ross Bowls His Way To A Touchdown
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Soul earned a huge victory over the weekend as they defeated San Jose 42-20. The highlight of the game came from fullback Derrick Ross who pulled off an improbable touchdown run.
Ross pulled off a touchdown on a 32 yard screen play which looked like it had the potential to be a big play, but not necessarily a touchdown.
The 6'0, 240 pound fullback took the screen pass and allowed his blockers to get into position in front of him. After utilizing his blocks, he was hit by a San Jose defender around 18 yards from the end zone, which was seemingly the end of a solid play.
The play was over to everyone except Ross. The fullback continued to barrel his way down the field.
About five different defenders made contact with Ross within the next 18 yards, but none of them could bring him to the ground. The defender with the best grip wrapped Ross up around the 10 yard line and was mercilessly dragged the rest of the way.
Ross' big score couldn't have come at a bigger time as it helped lead the Soul to a win that keeps their playoff hopes alive heading into the final week of the season. Their final game is set for July 26th when they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Power at Consol Energy Center.
