Soul Visit Orlando Saturday, Looking For First Win
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Soul will be on the road on Saturday, visiting Orlando in Arena Football League action.
Philadelphia is dealing with an odd early season schedule. Including a season-opening, 66-52 loss at Arizona back on March 23rd, their first three games are on the road and they are actually coming off their only bye of the season . . in week #2.
"It's not beneficial at all," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio about the early bye week. "It's going to be rough, but that's what we were dealt so that's what we'll deal with. In our minds, we've got to play twenty straight games now. We've got 17 regular season games and three playoff games. So we've got to be smart with our bodies and take care of that, because that's a long season for us."
Clint Dolezel Interview
Orlando is coached by Doug Plank, who actually led the Soul to the Arena Bowl last season as head coach (with Dolezel as an assistant), before departing and eventually taking over things with the Predators.
"They're an 0-2 team that should be 2-0," Dolezel says. "They should've won both those football games, didn't find a way to finish both those teams and end up being on the 0-2 side of it. Very good football team. They've got a good secondary, they're aggressive. Pass rush and pass protection, that's the key. It's always going to be the key, if we can put pressure on their quarterback, which we think we can this week, and we can protect (quarterback) Dan (Raudabaugh), which we think we can, as well. I thought we did a good job against Arizona, as far as protecting for the most part. We've got to win the turnover battle, that's where we start, from there."
Philadelphia and Orlando will kick-off at 7:30pm on Saturday.
