Soul Set For Open Tryout Saturday

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Arena Football League season is quickly approaching and the Philadelphia Soul is looking everywhere for talent to fill out the roster.

On Saturday, they will hold an open tryout at the Eagles headquarters, the NovaCare complex, in South Philadelphia.

New Soul head coach Clint Dolezel stopped by the KYW Newsradio studios on Friday morning and said that they have enjoyed a lot of success with these tryouts.

Clint Dolezel Interview

"Philly, for some reason, puts out a lot of good players," Dolezel says.  "Last year we signed a player that made it halfway through the season for us.  We've already signed two players from the first tryout we had this year (October 2012) in Tyrone Collins and Ryan McDaniel, both wide receivers.  Big, young, good looking kids.  So you find them, it's amazing.  It's a needle in a haystack a lot of times, but Philly seems to put out some good talent."

Last season, the Soul rolled through the regular season with a 15-3 record, and then they made it all the way to the Arena Bowl before losing to Arizona.  Dolezel says they haven't forgotten that game.

"The guys are eager," Dolezel says. "You know we didn't play well when we played Arizona in the championship.  We get to, hopefully, rekindle that fire because we play them the first week in Arizona.  So we're excited about that, just to put that rest, and hopefully get that game behind us and win that one."

And Dolezel says their roster is really coming together.

"We've got everybody back, for the most part, on the offensive side," Dolezel says. "We've got the best running back in the league in Derrick Ross back, he broke his own record last year in rushing and touchdowns.  We're really looking good on the offensive side and now we're trying to find that special pass rusher."

The Soul tryout begins at 9:00am.  Registration on sight begins at 8:00am.  The cost to register is $80 on the day of.   For more information, check out www.philadelphiasoul.com.
