PHILADELPHIA -- With extremely hot weather in the forecast for the rest of the week (see weather forecast page), some are schools are already announcing plans to close early.

The Haddonfield School District web site says its schools will have half-days on Wednesday and Thursday.

All Philadelphia School District Public and Archdiocesan schools, including early childhood programs, will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday due to heat.

A statement released by the school district reads in part: "The expected extreme weather coupled by the high humidity levels could create a situation in which heat illness is possible. The District is taking this heat warning seriously by closing schools, which includes early childhood programs, at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow. At the 1:30 p.m. dismissal time, routine transportation will occur for students."
