Some Restaurant Owners In Ocean City Want BYOB Status
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Want a little wine with dinner? People can't do that in an Ocean City restaurant although there's a move that could change that.
The town has been legally dry since it's inception in 1879. And that makes things difficult for businessmen like Kevin Scull, owner of Scully's Asbury Café, particularly since he's open all year round down the shore.
"There's a lot of people that don't come down to eat in Ocean City because of the fact that they can't have a glass of wine and they go over to the surrounding communities because they can."
So there's a bit of a movement to allow for people to bring their own wine to the table. Scull admits it's a touchy issue - given the town's family reputation - something he doesn't want to mess with.
His fellow restaurateurs are getting together next month to map a possible strategy likely to include a push for a public referendum on the question.
