Some Charities Expect Drop In Donations Due To Sandy Recovery Efforts

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With the holidays approaching, it's a key time for many local charities and their fund drives. Some could be concerned about the impact of the recent effort by the Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
The economy is sluggish and with only so much money to go around, it's a difficult time for many charities as they seek holiday donations.
Susan Levin, interim director of development at the Salvation Army in Philadelphia, is grateful for the donations given for Sandy victims and doesn't expect the Red Cross activity to impact her group.
"We're not expecting a dip in donations and we sincerely hope that is not the case."
Marlo DelSordo, director of communications at Philabundance, says it will make her group work harder.
"Whenever there is less funding, or there are multiple campaigns, you always want to be much more vocal and raise the visibility."
Ryan Hibbard, director of development at the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission in Philadelphia is concerned that donations may dip because some donors are still recovering from the storm.
"Our concern is really with those who may be donating to us or have donated in the past that may be affected personally. You know, there are a lot of people in the area who have lost shingles or have major damage to their homes."
This is an important time for many charities trying to raise money to make the holidays better for the area needy.
