Software In Development Could Diagnose Concussions Instantly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local researcher is working on software that can analyze brain waves and diagnose brain health.
Dr. Hashem Ashrafiuon is an engineering professor at Villanova University. His research could have an impact on the way concussions are identified in sports. He says the information could be available almost immediately:
"We can actually put the device as part of the helmet because it would have very little weight and actually diagnose if the player has a concussion instantly within seconds after the incident."
Ashrafiuon's research is still in the developmental stage for Brain Computer Interface of Yardley. The research team has already developed software which can detect Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The software is called Mindscope and it is expected to be ready for wide-spread use by 2014.
