Social Media Will Be A Major Player For 2016 Democratic Convention in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Twitter has been abuzz following the annoucement that Philadelphia will host the Democratic National Convention next year.
The hashtag #DNC2016 was trending locally for most of the day yesterday. Meryl Levitz, president of the city tourism agency Visit Philadelphia, says there are some big differences between 2000, when the Republican convention was in Philadelphia, and now.
"In 2000, we were the first convention that ever had a separate workroom room for online media," she tells KYW Newsradio. "We'll probably be the first one to have a whole seperate area for the social media world, as technology has changed."
People all over Twittersphere have taken to the social network to weigh in.
Philly native and MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews -- who had authored an op-ed urging the DNC to pick his hometown -- tweeted: "So glad that historic #Philadelphia will remind the Democrats and the country what we stand for. #DNC2016 #Philly #hardball"
And US senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) tweeted:
"Excited to see the 2016 DNC convention is in Philadelphia...or as I like to call it, South-West Jersey. @Michael_Nutter"
There are several hashtags floating around online, but Philadelphia city officials are using this one: #PHLDNC2016.
