Social Media Today: LinkedIn Redesign, New Facebook Pages, Xbox gets social

By Melony Roy

LinkedIn redesigns profiles

LinkedIn is rolling out a new profile design for its premium members.

The new look is similar in style to Facebook and Twitter's latest design, it includes a larger profile photo and a customizable header image.

According to a company blog post, the rest of LinkedIn's members are expected to get the new look in "a few months."

The professional network also added a few other incentives to attract more users to its paid service. Premium users can now add personalized keywords to their account in hopes of showing up more frequently in searches, and when they do, their profiles will be twice as large as members who are using LinkedIn's free service.

New Facebook Pages available

The new layout for Facebook's business and organization pages are now available.

The redesign, initially announced in March, gives businesses more control over the look and functionality of their pages. Admins can now adjust the placement of sections in the top navigation menu and left-column menu.

Earlier this week, Facebook announced it now has 30 million active small business pages worldwide.

Xbox gets social

More than 45 new apps are coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360, including Twitter and Vine.

"We're thrilled to break new ground in social TV experiences like we're doing with Twitter on Xbox One," said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President, Devices and Studios at Microsoft.

It will now be easier to discover what shows are trending in real-time on Twitter, tune-in and follow the conversation right from within the Xbox One interface. Twitter will be directly integrated into Xbox One's TV experience in the U.S. The social network will be optimized for the biggest screen in your house with the ability to see Tweets related to the cable or satellite TV shows you're watching as they're happening.

Xbox One users can also watch their favorite six second Vine videos and browse Vine channels on the big screen.
