By Melony Roy

Facebook COO now a billionaire

Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg is now a member of the billionaire's club. Bloomberg reports her net worth topped the $1-billion mark when the social network's stock closed at $58.51 per share yesterday.

Sandberg holds some 12.3 million Facebook shares, which are worth about $750 million. The 44-year-old author is one of the youngest female billionaires in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Pinterest adds new recipe feature

Pinterest has launched a recipe search  engine, to make it easier for its users to discover, save and share recipes with each other on its site.

Aspiring chefs can now enter individual foods and ingredients into the search bar, which will then show relevant recipe pins from across the site. Results can be filtered by selecting from the cuisine options along the left-hand side of the page, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and paleo. There's also an "indulge me" filter for pinners that aren't concerned with calorie counts.

Jeff Miller developed the search.  His company, Punchfork, was acquired by Pinterest last January.

Pinterest says it's rolling out the new recipe search on the web now, and we'll bring it to mobile soon.

Facebook tweaks algorithm again

Facebook has announced that it will start showing more status updates from your friends in the news feed, but will decrease the number of updates from brand pages.

In a blog post, Chris Turitzin, a Facebook product manager, said "This will help us show people more content they want to see." Facebook says the change was based on an observation that its users respond better to posts from other users than they do from pages. "Page admins can expect a decrease in the distribution of their text status updates, but they may see some increases in engagement and distribution for other story types."
