Social Media Today: Facebook Adopts 'Trending'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Facebook has launched a new feature, called "Trending." It's very similar to a feature that's been around on Twitter for years, but Facebook's version is slightly different.
Facebook says trending won't just show users the most popular topics, it will make sure it shows users trending topics that matter to them based on their interests.
In addition, Facebook's version will also give users a brief headline summary of what current topics are trending.

Twitter could become a platform that retailers use for more than just advertising and marketing.
According to a report by Recode, the social network may be teaming up with online payments service Stripe to make it possible for retailers to accept credit cards directly through tweets.

Netflix has earned its first Academy Award nomination for the documentry The Square, which premieres on the site today.
The Square details the revolution in Egypt, from the 2011 overthrow of military leader Hosni Mubarak through the ousting of Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
The film is nominated for best feature documentary Oscar against The Act of Killing, Cutie and the Boxer, Dirty Wars, and 20 Feet from Stardom.
