Social Media Making One Holiday Tradition Obsolete
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - 'Tis the season for holiday cards, but have you received any in the mail yet?
Could the holiday card tradition be dwindling? Many people say they're opting for online greetings instead.
"You're greener! You go online, tap tap tap, Merry Christmas! Happy Hannukah! And it's done!"
Reporter: "Holiday cards, do you get them in the mail anymore?"
"No, I don't. I don't get them and I never send them, either."
"It's kind of sad in a way, because we're used to the old-fashioned way, but it's also good because we have to change with the times!"
"It's just like Christmas cards are snail mail."
Reporter: "Do you miss the holiday cards, opening up the mail?"
"Well, if there's money in there, yeah! But other than that, they look pretty when you hang them up though the cards, but it's a different time!"
And some folks say while the holiday card used to be a way to get an annual update from your friends, that's not necessary anymore.
"I just think it's just more or less we're in a social network stage whether it be email, Facebook, Twitter, and I guess not a lot of people want to mail out anything anymore."
